This is a restaurant with a back story of former Norfolk Neptune semi-pro football Bonner having an alternate identity as the “Barbecue Boss. “ If you have dined at those restaurants then expect the same great flavor at Ms. Marian’s named for his wife.
Now on to the poultry and meat, perfectly golden fried chicken and fish(Whiting) were served to us. Watch out for bones in this type of fish. Both the fried chicken and fish were easy on the spice. For my liking, just a bit more salt or another spice would enhance the flavor. The barbecue pulled pork is quite tasty with a slight zing.
Things you will rarely find on a soul food menu are rolls, smoked chicken and sweet potato jacks but you will find them at Ms. Marian’s. The rolls are delectable.
Monday through Friday, the restaurant offers a $6.99 lunch buffet.
